Description

APPLICATION: Implant treatments by dipping or spraying. “In situ” application by low-pressure spray (knap-sack) is recommended, to saturation and run off. Surfaces should be clean and dry. WIPE DOWN GLASS AND WINDOW FRAMES IMMEDIATELY AFTER APPLICATION. Wash hands and equipment with soapy water after use. Be aware of wind direction and over spray.

CAUTION: Adequate eye protection is required (Goggles)

COVERAGE: A two-coat application, wet on wet is required. Coverage of 4 to 6 m² per litre.

ADVANTAGES: Poly Brick & Paving Seal inhibits the migration of water and in doing so prevents carbon build up, lime staining and fungal growth. General aesthetics of masonry products is maintained.

APPROVAL: Poly Brick & Paving Seal has been tested by rain penetration test SABS 0400 [KK 17.1]. An independent test by Draper Penhall & Associates concluded that Siliseal provides an excellent barrier against water absorption.

Detailed Description

Product Description High efficient Construction Waterproofer

Intended Uses Used for the application to Brickwork, Masonry, Concrete and Plaster finishes.

Penetrating up to 10mm, Poly Brick & Paving Seal is quartz based and therefore provides long term durability. When sprayed provides an excellent barrier against water absorption.

Features It has no effect on the aesthetics of the treated surface.

Water-based, UV-resistant, compatible with all types of cement based surfaces.

Excellent sealer

Preparation A comprehensive inspection of the surface to be treated must be carried out.

New Works Guidelines

Masonry Check that all joints are full. Ensure that any chemicals used as surface cleaners have been thoroughly washed off.

Concrete Ensure that releasing oils have been thoroughly removed.

Restoration Ensure that the surfaces are clean of any carbons, salts, fungi and other contamination. This can be achieved by using high pressure cleaners, brushes and organic citric acid.

Ensure that the surface is sound and stable with no friable joints, distemper or other faults.

Application Apply Poly Brick & Paving Seal wet on wet to saturation and run off. Apply to an area of approximately one meter wide, starting at the highest point, working downwards. It is extremely important to apply the second coat to the first coat almost simultaneously. Failure to do this will result in the second coat being repelled and incorrect application being achieved. Low pressure must always be used to avoid atomization and bounce off.

Tests Poly Brick & Paving Seal has passed a number of SABS rain penetration tests on various substrates.

Poly Brick & Paving Seal

  • Poly Brick & Paving Seal is a quartz-based sealer and gets absorbed into the pores and cavities of the material to facilitate a barrier against water absorption. It is used for application to brickwork, masonry, concrete and plaster finishes.
  • It repels water so that mould, fungi and moss are unable to grow on treated surfaces.
  • Because it is UV resistant it is very durable and long lasting and therefore ideal for our hot summers.
  • Poly Brick & Paving Seal does not alter the aesthetics of the surface when applied. In other wards one cannot detect that a surface has been treated. (When wet it will not dis-colour though because it repels water)
  • Quartz is so durable that when it is embedded in stone or cement products it offers much needed protection against the damage done by chlorine in salt-water pools.
  • Because Poly Brick & Paving Seal is a capillary sealant and not a surface sealant it does not make natural stone or cement-based tiles smooth and slippery. It is therefore safe and ideally suited for tiles, copings and mosaics in and around pools, ponds and water features.

Poly Brick & Paving Seal carries a 5-year warrantee.

Relevant water penetration tests were scientifically done under controlled circumstances by the South African Bureau of Standards and also by Draper Penhall & Associates and backs up the manufacturers warrantee

Poly Brick & Paving Seal will only be effective if applied on a very dry surface so that it can have maximum absorption ability. Walls must be free of oils, chemicals, salts, fungi and grime. All joints, cavities and holes must be filled first with mortar and allowed to dry before sealing the area. Around windows and windowsills clear silicone can be used to plug little cavities, holes or crevices. It is advisable to use a hand brush and not a spraying device to apply Poly Brick & Paving Seal around windows to prevent unnecessary spillage or run off.

Before applying Poly Brick & Paving Seal first remove all cars in the vicinity. Hose down cement floors, stairs, tiles, cobbles, and pavers etc. This will prevent streaks of Poly Brick & Paving Seal runoff coming off the walls spoiling and staining the floor surface. When the floor is wet these stains and streak marks will show up because they are unable to dis-colour with the rest of the area, as it repels water. To safeguard ceramics, slate, terracotta and other material with low porosity they must also be hosed down beforehand as Poly Brick & Paving Seal battles to penetrate and therefore leaves white deposits on the surface that are difficult to remove when dry.

Keep a bucket of water and cloths handy. After spraying of an area all windows must immediately be washed with a wet rag or chamois and a squeegee to prevent the quartz damaging windowpanes. NB: If Poly Brick & Paving Seal is allowed to dry on glass it will have to be replaced! Stainless steel, aluminum and brass must be covered to prevent stains. Even wooden window frames and non-sealed painted areas must be wiped down afterwards to prevent stains and streak marks. It is advisable to cover plants with a sheet of plastic. Take into effect the role wind might have on the operation and plan accordingly. If it is too severe don’t. Sometimes a 2litre plastic bottle can be cut in half and attached to the nozzle of the pipe acting as a funnel to prevent wind affecting precision spraying.

Use a knapsack type backpack sprayer, which is hand operated and work systematically from highest point downwards in meter high strips/ layers. The sealant is pre-mixed and ready for use. Use eye protection and wear gloves. Take care to wash hands with water when contaminated because the solution dries the skin out severely. Apply first coat and take care not to skip any areas. Adjust the nozzle to get the desired arc of spray. Keep pressure low enough to avoid sealant bouncing off causing wastage. Low pressure will avoid atomization of product, which could be carried off by even a light breeze and pollute the area and cause poor efficiency. Start second coat immediately and again work from the top down wet on wet till run off. Depending on the porosity of the surface 4 to 6 square meters can be covered per liter.
